Have you ever tried to study a language and fail? Well I have many times, but for some reason I keep trying to learn them.
I should have learnt when I failed at learning French back in grade 9, but I didn’t. So I thought maybe one can learn a language if they live in a strange and far off land. So I packed my bag and moved to Japan. Yep, I moved the the land of the rising sun, and I had no clue what I was getting myself into.
So I arrived in Japan, and didn’t know a word of Japanese. Man, I tell you it was hard for the first few days, but once I learnt you can point at pictures and people will bring you beer and food. Life be came much easier. I guess that is where the problems started, I found it easier to just point than try and learn Japanese. So for the past 10+ years in this crazy place I haven’t really taken the time to learn Japanese.
Well that is not really true, I have tried to learn Japanese four times in the past 10+ years and every time I failed. I failed for pretty much the same reason every time, which is cause I got bored and found other things which interested me more.
So I am going to try and learn Japanese for the fifth time. You might be thinking that I am nuts and should just give up, but I have a good reason to learn now. Which is, I want to understand my little Monkey!!. Who would have thought a three year old could speak so much. I am still lucky as he can not read Kanji, so I might be able to get an edge on him.
Thank you for Reading
Dave.
P.S. If you are wondering how come, I haven’t tried a tutor or a language school. Well I have and those did not work.
*update 2/10/2015:
Forgot to add my S.M.A.R.T goal, So here it is,
“Learn 2042 Kanji by Jan 25 2016”.
I am giving myself a lot of breathing room, as I can not studying Kanji during the weekends as the Monkey likes to go out and do things.
